Tyler Christopher takes to the stage

It was with utter joy that Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas, GENERAL HOSPITAL) returned to the stage last month to headline with Patty McCormack (THE SOPRANOS) in the L.A. production of The Ladies Of The Corridor.  Penned by famed playwright Dorothy Parker, it looks at the lives of forgotten women who inhabit a Manhattan residential hotel in the early 1950s.  "My character is an upscale New York attorney who becomes caught between his wife and his recently widowed mother," offers Christopher. The show's director/producer, Geo Hartley, tapped Christopher for the role after seeing his performance in Starfire, the play the actor performed to rave reviews last summer with his former GH castmate, Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda).

"I immediately knew he'd be right for this play," Hartley observes. But for Christopher, who has been making guest appearances on such primetime television hits as FAMILY LAW and CHARMED, the opportunity to do one more play before starting work as a series regular on THE PRETENDER this spring was too good to pass up.  "I had so much fun doing my last play that I wanted to do theater again," he explains. Having made his acting debut as GH's brooking prince, Christopher says he embraced this latest opportunity to stretch his acting muscles.  "I love playing an adult -- it's a chance to play my age for once!" he grins, adding he also welcomed the chance to play someone from a different era.  "In the fifties, people talked, thought and dressed differently, so that in itself is a challenge."

While the show is a vehicle for some of Dorothy Parker's witty observations about life, Christopher hints that there are a great many dark moments as well.  "You've gotta pay really close attention to get this one," he observes. The Ladies of the Corridor, which opened March 13 at the Tamarind Theater in Los Angeles, runs Mondays and Tuesdays through April18.  For tickets, call (323) 662-0553.
